PowerStep’s Top Technical Service Team has these few tips to help you better understand the need of servicing your Diesel Generator and when is the best time to do so, as well as what is involved.
There are different requirements for generators that run under a standby and prime powered application, in order to keep your generator in good working order, as well as a requirement to maintain the warranty on new generators.
The service usually covers items amongst other such as changing oils, wet and dry filtration, consumables, visual checks as well as the service engineers time and travel costs.
For a standby application, it is recommended to service the generator at least once a year or every 250 hours, which ever comes first.
It is also recommended to conduct a basic inspection every 3 months to confirm the generator is in working order should the generator be required to start under an emergency start.
This inspection would cover items, but not limited to, battery water levels, battery charger working operation, oil and water leaks, radiator check and Automatic Transfer Switch operation.
Note that it is important to follow the service intervals and guidelines published by the engine manufacturers.
